Coffee and coconut oil body scrub

This body srub is my specialty! It’s solely made from edible materials and is the purest way to exfoliate our body.

The backstory :

A few days ago I hosted a workshop, in which I showed 50 women how to make this body scrub on their own. It’s safe to say that the scrub was a success, and some of you asked me to share the recipe et voilà!

Why scrub?

Especially during summer, it’s important to exfoliate our skin regularly to remove dead cells. The ingredients for this scrub are detoxifying and invigorating for the skin. I have been using it every summer for the last 3 years now and indeed, it does wonders for my skin.

The ingredients :

Coffeeis rich in antioxidants, making it the perfect soothing ingredient for our skin. Coffe absorbs excess moisture and therefore, leaves the skin softer and firmer. In addition, for this scrub, coffee beans are a part of the exfoliation process.

Coconut oil is one of my favorite natural oils. It’s an ingredient I use for many of my body care products. It’s super moisturizing and rich in vitamins and minerals.

Coconut sugar and brown sugar are the ingredients that will exfoliate your body, remove dead skin cells and rejuvenate your skin, at the same time.

Cinnamon, also rich in antioxidants, cleanses your skin from bacteria and increases blood circulation.

To fill a small jar with this scrub, you will need :
  • 3 tablespoons of organic filter coffee
  • 3 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of organic vanilla extract (for aroma)
  • 8-10 tablespoons of coconut oil
Instructions :
  • In a bowl, add all the solid ingredients and mix well (coffee, brown sugar, coconut sugar, cinnamon)
  • Add the coconut oil to create a relatively thick mixture. If you notice that the mixture needs more coconut oil, add accordingly.
  • Mix well with a spoon and add the vanilla extract.

Tadaaa! The body scrub is ready!

Important notes :
  • You can use just type of sugar (brown or coconut or crystalline)
  • DON’T use this on your face. Cinnamon and coffee may be irritating to your face. Plus, sugar isn’t a suitable exfoliating ingredient for the face since it causes small abrasions on the skin. To make a face scrub you can use semolina * The recipe is coming on ashinyday.com;)
  • With this scrub, I exfoliate the legs, buttocks and arms while avoiding the chest as it is a more sensitive area.
How to use :

It is good to exfoliate three (3) times a week. No need to overdo it by using the scrub daily. There are two ways to use this scrub.

  1. In the shower, before you wet your body, exfoliate with this scrub. After exfoliating, rinse and proceed with your shower as usual.
  2. After you shower, exfoliate and rinse with water. You won’t even have to moisture afterwards because your skin will be baby soft.
Dosage and application :

I will describe how I apply the scrub, but note that each body is different and has its own needs. I mainly exfoliate on the legs and buttocks. Using my fingers I scoop a cherry-size amount, maybe a little more. I massage one thigh from bottom up, in circular motions. With the excess product on my hands, I exfoliate the calf and my hand. I scoop the same amount of product and repeat on the other side. I do gently massage my skin, because exfoliating with sugar and coffee is easy. Don’t exfoliate vigorously. This can cause small abrasions on the skin or irritation.

As I said before, this scrub is tried and true! You will see that from the very first application the skin will be noticeably softer and firmer. Especially if you use it on a regular basis!

Of course, you have to remember that a healthy skin is a product of an all around healthy lifestyle and a adequate hydration!
